Therapy is a quest for answers.
Some people are hesitant to seek therapy because they fear being open about their issues. I understand the reasoning behind such hesitation, but I would like you to consider the possibility of finally working through your challenges.
As your therapist, I am always on your side as we explore how to find the best answers to the questions that keep bouncing around in your head. There is no criticism here because I aim to walk with you on this quest.
Sessions are designed to meet your needs.
We must build a positive working relationship as we design an approach specific to your needs. Therefore, I provide curated care based on the client’s immediate needs during our first therapy session.
Sessions begin with a “Stress Check,” during which I listen attentively to clients expressing the severity of their stress and discussing the contributing factors.
Some of the techniques I utilize include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), helping me strategize remedies for the causes of the client’s stress.

I use a real-world approach.
Throughout the process, I use examples and stories from movies, TV shows, and anime (narratives) to illustrate strategies for reducing a client’s stress.
I may even utilize clips from YouTube, guided meditations, or experiential exercises to help clients guide their awareness and explore difficult experiences.
My approach is pragmatic and solution-focused, as I want my clients to leave each therapy session equipped with the skills or techniques to manage their immediate stressors.
If you are ready for a new approach to help you overcome what keeps you stuck, I am the therapist for you.
About Abu Nasim, Ph.D.

I aim to serve my fellow New Yorkers.
As a Muslim-American immigrant, New York City is my home. I was in middle school during the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001, and I remember what it was like living in New York during that time. I developed my identity through the support of close friends and my family.
Having volunteered and worked in all five boroughs, I take pride in serving my fellow New Yorkers, who range in age from 20 months to older adults in their 70s.
I aim to treat all encounters with an open and curious mind, especially when dealing with world religions and spiritual traditions. To gain breadth, I studied Jedi Metaphysics while at St. John’s University, Tibetan Buddhism since 2012, Christianity and Catholicism under the guidance of professors and colleagues at both St. John’s University and Fordham University, and the Jewish faith while working with an Orthodox-Jewish community in Far Rockaway, Queens.
New York is a diverse city, ethnically and religiously. Therefore, to be effective as a therapist in New York, one must learn to embrace people from diverse backgrounds and walks of life.
My professional training and experience are diverse.
My M.A. is in Bilingual Education, and I received my Ph.D. in School Psychology in 2018. Both degrees are from Fordham University.
I have worked as a School Psychologist for a special needs preschool for five years. In that role, I was a Jack-of-all-Trades providing consultation to parents, teachers, administrators, and related school staff. I also provided counseling and assessed the functional behavioral skills of special needs children.
In 2024, I left my position as Director of Mental Health and Wellness and spent most of the year traveling through Asia, including three months in Japan and five months in Southeast Asia. Throughout this time, I strived to integrate lessons from the spiritual traditions of the countries I visited.
In my work, I strive to blend the wisdom gained from contemplative training with my therapeutic approach to assist clients on their therapeutic journey.
Activities outside of therapy are diverse.
I am passionate about assisting my local community. I serve as a NYC ACBS board member, planning and organizing training for mental health professionals in the NYC area. I also coordinate and volunteer for a local Buddhist youth group based in Queens, New York City.
One of my passions is video games. I have logged hundreds of hours playing Super Smash Bros. and Pokémon.
I am also an avid consumer of manga and anime and frequently attend comic and anime conventions.
